Adjunct Professor of Physics
Biography

Research

I am currently investigating spin orbit interactions in 2 dimensional systems, particularly the effect of the SO interaction on the orbital motion. Following my  work in underwater acoustics I am generally interested in semi-classical approximations and waves in random media, but now as these appear in semiconductor physics.

Biography

David Berman received a B.A. from Carleton College in 1967 and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976. In the 1980's he worked in the Acoustics Division of the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC doing underwater acoustics. In 1990 he became a Research Physicist at the University of Iowa, continuing his work in underwater acoustics, particularly studying scattering of waves by rough interfaces.   He taught at the University of Northern Iowa between 2000 and 2006. Starting in 2000 he started to work with the Flatté Research group where the wavelengths are much smaller.  He is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.
